OVER 40 STUDENT ARRESTED FOR KIDNAPPING, AND

Anambra police arrest over 40 students for kidnapping and cult activities

40 suspects accused of involvement in criminal activities, including cultism, kidnapping, car snatching and vandalism, were paraded on Wednesday by the Anambra State Police Command.

Parading the suspects, the Commissioner of Police, Hosea Karma, said the cultists, aged between 14 and 16 years, were students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

Karma told newsmen that the boys, arrested at Obosi, were members of the Black Axe and Vikings, among other cult groups, insisting that the criminals found the town a safe haven to operate because of the recurring land crisis in the community.
Meanwhile, 48 youths from Obosi, who were brought to the police station during the parade, renounced membership of their various cult groups.

They were brought in 5 buses by the Obosi President General, Dan Igbokwubile. They also pledged to assist the community, the police and the state in fighting crimes. Karma disclosed that the suspects snatched 3 cars, while one of them was behind the kidnap of the personal assistant to the former commissioner for works in the state.
The police chief, who disclosed that “the other suspects specialised in vandalising communication masts and electricity cables,” commended Governor Willie Obiano for his support to the security agencies, also thanked the public for their cooperation, especially with useful information.

He listed some of the items recovered as locally-made shot pistols, cutlasses, axes, black and red candles (reportedly used for rituals), drums for their music, a lot of Indian hemp and handsets, among others.
Meanwhile, Karma said the police were now more determined to flush out criminals from their hideouts in order to maintain the existing peaceful environment in the state.

He urged students and young people to face their studies instead of resorting to crime, which does not pay, warning that the long arm of law would always catch them.

Stressing the collective need for government, communities and leaders to rid the state of all undesirable elements, he enjoined parents to monitor the activities of their children.

militant blow up Chevron pipeline

Lagos - A militant group has attacked a Chevron installation in the Niger delta, a maritime expert confirmed Thursday, the latest damage to Nigeria's oil infrastructure that is dragging output to 20-year lows. Militant group Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) appeared to claim the attack late Wednesday in a statement on a Twitter account bearing their name that said it had blown up the main electricity feed pipeline at the Escravos oil terminal. The NDA, the most high-profile group to emerge recently in the increasingly volatile Niger delta, has launched a series of attacks in recent months that have choked output from oil giants Chevron, Shell and ENI and helped push up global crude prices. The attack would "reduce Chevron's capability to export crude oil via Escravos," Dirk Steffen, from the Denmark-based Risk Intelligence firm, told AFP. "The main threat posed by this development is the severely reduced oil output, which puts further pressure on the financially c...

HURRAY.......Nigeria Polio Free

Nigeria has been free of  polio  for an entire year, thanks to an aggressive vaccination policy supported by the Gates Foundation. The world’s biggest philanthropic organisation has dedicated itself to eradicating polio by 2018, and CEO Dr Sue Hellman says Pakistan and Afghanistan are now the “last frontiers” in this process. In 2014, India, a polio hotspot five years ago, declared itself polio-free prompting Bill Gates to describe this as “the greatest global health achievement I have ever witnessed”.  “Eradicating polio will mean that we have wiped out one of humanity’s oldest scourges,” Hellman told a group of African journalists on the eve of the release of her  annual letter , reflecting on the foundation’s work. The Gates Foundation supports vaccination campaigns worldwide and by last year, it estimated that the lives of seven million children had been saved as a result of expanded access to vaccines. The foundation is also heavily invested in the search ...
