NIGERIA AMONG THE TOP 3?

Nigeria and two other countries have been recognised as the best performing countries by the Economic Commission for Africa in accomplishing activities of the African Road Safety Action Plan. Among the 23 countries, Ghana and South Africa were also listed as performing well according to a mid-term review report from the third African road safety conference organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa. According to Newswatch Times, the report showed that 40% of member countries were in the process of implementing more road safety management. The report showed that different measures were used to rate the countries as some who performed high in some categories performed low in others. The rating however, provided an avenue for countries tom identify weak links and perform better there. 75 YEAR OLD BUSINESS MAN DIED AFTER.......

A 75-year-old Spanish businessman has died after being shot in the head in Mexico City, while two people were seriously wounded on Monday when a custody dispute turned violent at a shopping centre in an upscale part of the city, authorities said. The shootings, which occurred in areas not generally plagued by violence, were the latest incidents to weigh on Mexico’s security record. A spokeswoman for Mexico City Attorney General Edmundo Garrido said the Spaniard, Jose Gonzalez, died in a hospital after being shot around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in the northwestern borough of Miguel Hidalgo. In a statement, the office of the attorney general said the man was shot outside one of his businesses, in a part of the borough known as Escandon, a normally peaceful area. Railway line rehabilitated with N1.6bn overgrown with bush The Federal Government’s newly rehabilitated rail loop lines linking various oil tank farms at Apapa, Lagos have been overtaken by thick bush, eight months after rehabilitation, Financial Vanguard investigation has revealed. The project which was handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC, has remained unused after it was completed. The rail to tank farm project which involved laying of tracks into the farm yards, so that petroleum products can be hauled directly into rail tank wagons was completed in December, 2014 and cost the Federal Government N1.6 billion. The tracks were upgraded from 60 to 85 pounds in order for the tracks to be able to withstand the expected increase in weight that will result from direct haulage of petroleum products by rail.
