109 PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR CROSSING XPRESS ROAD



LAGOS – NO fewer than 109 persons were, weekend, arrested by men of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of Lagos State Police Command, and officials of Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI, for crossing the expressway at Ketu Bus Stop, along Ikorodu road, instead of using the pedestrian bridge.
The arrest, according to Mr. Olatunji Disu, RRS Commander, is to instil discipline towards the use of pedestrian bridges in the state to prevent loss of lives on highways and ease the free-flow of traffic.
Among those arrested were 102 men and seven women.
In another development, fleeing robbers, weekend, opened fire on a team of policemen attached to RRS in Ikeja area of Lagos.
However, they were reportedly forced to abandon their operational vehicle, a Toyota Camry with number plates GGE 204 DG and fled into the bush.
Recovered from the abandoned car were six mobile phones, an axe, a pair of canvass, passport photograph, taxi signboard and documents.
The robbers, according to Disu, an Assistant Commissio-ner of Police, attacked a couple, Mr. and Mrs John Udoh, who were on their way to board an East-bound vehicle at about 5.40a.m., Saturday.
They raised alarm and the officers responded.

35 BODIES RECOVERED

Kuala Lumpur - Malaysian rescuers have recovered the bodies of 35 more Indonesian migrants killed when their boat sank three days ago, along with another survivor, taking the toll in the disaster to 50, officials said on Sunday. The survivor was recovered on Friday afternoon having spent more than a day in the water and was said to be in good health. "Thirty-five more bodies have been recovered since Friday," said Mohamad Aliyas Hamdan, a Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency official. "We expect to find more over the next few days," he added. Aliyas said the search operation would continue for the next three days, adding that from information gained from the 20 people rescued, there were believed to have been up to 80 people on the small vessel. RALLY CAR LEAVES ROAD AND KILL 6

Madrid - Police say six people have died and several others were injured after being hit by a speeding car that left the road while taking part in the Coruna Rally in northwestern Spain. Saturday evening's accident killed four women and two men in Carral, in the region of Galicia, a police spokesperson said. Among the injured taken to the hospital were three children, she said.
