Exchange Rate Now 282 To Dollar

The naira springs up to N282.5 against the dollar on Wednesday, June 22, from N284 it closed on Tuesday, June 21 following the injection of dollar by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
The local currency surged by 0.7 per cent yesterday to 282.5 per dollar, after earlier shedding as much as 0.5 per cent following market adjustments to the new forex policy released by the apex bank.
The CBN sold dollars onto the interbank forex market for a third day to ease dollar shortages after it floated the currency. The regulator has intervened in the market by selling forex since it ended the currency’s 16-month fix of 197 to 199 per dollar on Monday.
It sold $4 billion in the spot and forwards markets that day to clear a backlog of demand for hard currency, and followed that with about $100 million of sales on the spot market on Tuesday.
Forward contracts dropped as traders reduced their bets on how much further the naira will weaken, although they still see it dropping 6.5 percent by late September.
Three-month naira non-deliverable forward contracts fell 4.7 per cent, the most on a closing basis since May 17, to N302.25 per dollar....

Erik Rueppel, tried to buy Whitted more time as he waved for the oncoming train to slow down. “This is what we’re trained to do,” Whitted said. “Luckily, we were at the right place at the right time.” The driver of the car had crashed into a pole and onto the tracks as the train was coming. The dramatic video shows him falling down seconds before the train crashes into his car left on the tracks “I don’t think there was time to be scared. You just do things as safe as you can, respond and that’s it. It kind of just happens,” Rueppel said. Caltrain, the operators of the train, also ...

A 75-year-old Spanish businessman has died after being shot in the head in Mexico City, while two people were seriously wounded on Monday when a custody dispute turned violent at a shopping centre in an upscale part of the city, authorities said. The shootings, which occurred in areas not generally plagued by violence, were the latest incidents to weigh on Mexico’s security record. A spokeswoman for Mexico City Attorney General Edmundo Garrido said the Spaniard, Jose Gonzalez, died in a hospital after being shot around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday in the northwestern borough of Miguel Hidalgo. In a statement, the office of the attorney general said the man was shot outside one of his businesses, in a part of the borough known as Escandon, a normally peaceful area. The motive for the shooting was under investigation, according to the spokeswoman. It was also unclear how many people took part in the attack on Gonzalez, she said. Spanish newspapers, including El Pais, said Gonza...
